When does the baby start drinking out of a stage two nipple?
LiBrA2006 asked:
I was told you start your baby on a stage 2 nipple once they’re drinking cereal b/c it’s thicker than milk! Right now my daughter is only drinking formula and up to 5-6 ounces which her bottles only go up to 5oz.! I want to start using her 9 ounce bottles but they’re stage two niples, is it ok?

i used stage 2 nipples on my daughter when she was 1 month old. as long as it doesn’t make her choke and it isn’t too fast for her than it is fine.
Stage 2 nipples are designed for babies 3-6 months. However, any doctor will tell you that it is not recommended to put cereal in bottles. If it comes out too fast, the baby can choke. No matter what some “old school” people will tell you about having cereal makes kids sleep longer or that it is safe to give babies of any age, I wouldn’t do it. My youngest child is 17 months old and like his older sister, he started sleeping through the night at 3 months with only drinking formula. Most books will say start cereal at 4 months. A good general guideline for when it is a good time to start cereal is when your baby is drinking an 8 oz bottle of formula more often than every 3-4 hours then it is time they had something more than formula. To answer your ACTUAL question, if your baby is older than 3 months then stage 2 nipples are fine. If not, you can buy stage 1 nipples for pretty much any style bottle so that you can start using the bigger bottles.
only if she has cereal in it cuz it not she’ll choke on too much milk. an not be happy.
She’ll be the judge. It may come out too fast for her. Give it a try and see how well she takes it without spitting up because it comes out too fast.
It is ok as long as you know to fill the bottle only to 6oz. If she is drinking cereal in the milk she needs to use stage 2 nipples to get the full nutrition from the cereal.
