How often do you and baby have to go to the doctor after birth?

baby
snailysnal asked:

Just wondering how many visits after birth for both me and for the baby ? What should I expect? And what do they do at them?
Are the mother and baby visits seperate or together?

THANKS

You will have a 6 week check with your OB, as long as everything is fine that will be the only visit you have!
The baby will have visits at 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months and then yearly. They will take measurement (height, weight, head circumfrence), do a physical exam (ears, mouth, nose, belly, genitals, heart, lungs) and then they should discuss any appropriate milestones and behaviors, feeding topics and ask if you have any questions and answer them appropriatly. If you have specific questions, bring a list with you so you don’t forget to ask anything, this also helps the doctor to answer your questions quickly. The baby will also receive vaccinations as scheduled by the CDC. If you want to know exactly what shots the baby will get, check out the website at CDC.gov They explain which shots are given and give you all the information (what they prevent, side effects etc) Hope this helps

My doctor sees my son every month. (I don’t know why, but hey, I’m fine with that!)
But as I understand it, everyone goes every two months.

Your first and only visit will be 6 weeks later. They’ll do an internal and check to make sure you’re healing fine. Other than that, it’s basically a regular checkup.

  • Stacy's Mom:

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere where there are only family practicioners, you’ll go to your OB & your baby will go to a pedtrician.

You’ll have a visit at 6 weeks pp, and then you’ll resume your annual exams.

Every peditrician has a slightly different schedule .You can ask them what they normally do when you interview them – which I highly reccomend you do!

    We went at
    4 days
    11 days
    1 month
    2 months
    4 months
    6 months
8 months (1st flu shot only)
    9 months
    12 months

Basically, you’re answering a bunch of questions about what and when baby is eating, the number of wet & dirty diapers (oh yes, you will have to keep track!), what developmental milestones baby has reached, who’s watching baby. Baby will get age-appropriate vaccinations and will be weighed and measured.

The postpartum check is just for you which is 6 weeks after giving birth and you go to your Obgyn.

The baby goes to a pediatrician. Every baby is different though – You have to go 2-3 days after being released.

Then usually you go back at the 2 week mark for the baby. At least that’s what my baby’s pediatrician does. Then just the regular visits for shots.

  • John's mommy:

well she just summed it up for you. A little tip for you: If you go to your local Health Department you can get the baby’s shots for free instead of getting them at the pediatrician’s office. Those shots are expensive at the doctors and you will end up paying for them after your maximum benefit is met (dependant upon your insurance of course).

  • please respect the caviar:

1 for you at 6 weeks – make sure everything is healing fine, and get birth control

    baby –

2 days after you leave the hospital – measure, weight, talk
2 month old – shots, measure, weight, talk
    4 month – ^^
    6 month – ^^
    8 month – ^^
    12 month – ^^
    so on and so forth

you bring the baby to a pediatrician and you go to your OBGYN

EDIT: i totally forgot, you also have to go back when baby is 2 weeks old to make sure he has gained all the weight he lost after birth back.
