How many outfits did your baby go through in the hospital?

baby
Love my Baby Boy and Hubby :) asked:

I am trying to make sure I have everything I need (probably too much stuff) when I have my baby. So, how many outfits should I pack for him, I know that babies can be messy.

I don’t actually remember if we brought any clothes to the hospital. If we did, we never put the baby in them. He spent all his time in one of the little kimono shirts the nurses put on, a diaper and a swaddle. That’s how he went home too — they even gave us a little hat for him with the hospital’s logo!

my daughter was in the diaper and side snap shirt the whole time except for pictures and going home. it made it so easy to change her diaper and i didn’t have to worry about dirtying clothes that i’ll just have to wash in a couple of days when i’m tired and adjusting to life with a newborn

First off CONGRATS on the baby!!!!! When your new baby arrives they will be wheeled off to the nursery and not be seen again for about a couple hours. Don’t worry they are just making sure baby is perfect! The hospital will then put a onesie on your baby and then they will be wrapped in a blanket. You will probably only be in the hospital for 2 days. The hospital supplies diapers, blankets, and formula for your baby.I did take 2 outfits for my kids because you never know what size they will actually be in. My youngest weighed 8lbs9ozs!!!! Thats very big especially when i only weighed 125 before I had him. My oldest son was only 7lbs2oz so he needed premie clothes my youngest needed my husbands clothes!!!lol He really did wear 3-6month clothes the day he was born. Dont forget hospital pictures on the day you leave!!! Hope I was of some help

Your hospital might have a policy. I know my hospital does. We are not allowed to put ay of our outfits on the baby while in the hospital. The baby had to wear the hospital outfit the whole time the baby is in the hospital. I got one outfit to bring the baby home.

We did the same thing as Jude’s momma- we left him in the shirt that the hospital put him in after his bath, and kept him in a blanket and hat the rest of the time. We put his sleeper on him when we were going home- he was born Feb. 23rd a few years ago- your due date now!

I was only in overnight so I brought two all in ones – my hospital didn’t provide blankets or clothes for the newborns. She didn’t fit into one of the outfits though cos she was so small.

Only one for his picture and one to take him home in. In fact, in the nursery they took his outfit off that I put on and used the one they provided because it was easier for them when the ped’s need to look at him, be changed, bathed etc…Most of the time, he was swaddled. I had a whole bunch of outfits, but I did find it easier to use what was provided by the hospital.

  • Mommy to 7 month old Jacob:

none.. he was to small lol. I just kept him in what the hospital put him in and then dressed him in one of th onesies i brought for the trip home. the coming home outfit I brought for him was way too big..

If you know you are going to have a tiny baby (mine was 6 lbs 4 oz and 19.5 in) then go buy one preemie outfit to bring with you just incase he doesn’t fit into standard NB clothes.

My daughter stayed in her hospital gown until we got ready to be discharged.

Nattie only wore 4 outfits in the hospital. I kept her in the t-shirt onsie a lot…..MUCH easier!

p.s……make sure you grab some of the reciving blankets at the hospital. They are thinker and larger and GREAT for swaddling! =)

    CONGRATS!!!

We went through at least 10 in the 2 days i was there due to him spitting up all the time and being sick. Best to pack too many than too little and either leaving the little one in something wet or someone having to go home for you. I had to have a c section so i was in for 2 days so possibly less if you will be there for a shorter time.

  • Jude's Mama:

We left our little one in the dispoable diaper/side snap shirt they gave us. we kept him swaddled most of the time. he only put on ‘clothes’ when we were going home.

well, i brought 12. just in case. you know? your only gonna be in there for like 3-4 days at most ( if everything goes okay) and 4 outfits a day is plenty. and they havr washing machines.

  • Kelley:

    I brought 7 for the 3 days.
We used them all too. Mostly sleepers.
